  • AFM’s Big Game social campaign generated the 2nd highest number of social media impressions in company history – 4.8 billion.

U.S. AVOCADO IMPORTS REMAIN STRONG
The Mexican avocado industry demonstrated its commitment to providing the best quality avocados to consumers in February, when leaders helped expedite a safe and efficient return to operations after a brief pause in avocado imports to the U.S. The industry not only supplies Americans with the fruit they love, but also positively benefits U.S. and Mexican economies in a significant way.

  • In 2021, the U.S. imported $3.0 billion avocados globally, with 92% coming from Mexico.
  • In terms of volume, the U.S. imported 1.2 metric tons (2.4 billion pounds) in 2021, 89% from Mexico.
  • AFM is the main supplier of avocados to the U.S., with 80% of avocados exported from Michoacán going to the U.S.
  • The avocado industry contributed an estimated $6.5 billion in U.S. economic output from 2019 – 2020, and created more than 33,000 jobs for American workers.
  • In Mexico, the avocado industry fuels a vibrant local economic engine that has encouraged regional growth and created approximately 78,000 direct and permanent jobs, and 310,000 indirect and seasonal jobs in Michoacán.

These positive economic impacts are projected to grow given the large and expanding demand push for avocados.
